Oh/Jo Tech takes a fundamentally different approach to location data. While many apps track users continuously and monetize that data, we believe your location is deeply personal information that deserves the highest level of protection.

  • No tracking without consent: Location features are entirely opt-in
  • No background tracking: We only access location when you're actively using location features
  • No selling or sharing: Your location data is never sold to advertisers, data brokers, or any third party
  • No profiling: We do not build movement profiles or behavioral patterns
  • No retention: Location data is not stored long-term
We will never sell, rent, trade, or otherwise monetize your location data. We will never track you outside of your explicit consent. We will never build profiles based on your movements. Your location serves you, not us.

When you opt-in to location features, your location data is used exclusively for:

Geofencing / Auto Check-In

When enabled, we detect when you arrive at or leave a participating facility to:

  • Automatically check you in when you arrive
  • Update your waitlist status based on presence
  • Notify staff that you've arrived for your reservation
  • Check you out when you leave (for session tracking)

Geofencing only activates within the defined boundaries of participating facilities. We do not track your location between facilities or after you leave.

Share Location with Friends

You can choose to share your real-time location with friends within the Oh/Jo platform:

  • Share that you're at a specific facility
  • Let friends know when you've arrived
  • Coordinate meetups at facilities

Friend location sharing requires explicit consent each time. You choose who can see your location and can revoke access instantly.

To be absolutely clear, Oh/Jo Tech will NEVER:

  • Sell your location data to any third party for any reason
  • Share your location with advertisers or data brokers
  • Track your movements outside of participating facilities
  • Build profiles based on places you visit
  • Use location data for targeted advertising
  • Retain historical location data beyond what's needed for active features
  • Access your location when you're not using location-enabled features
  • Share your location with facility operators beyond check-in/check-out status

You maintain full control over location features at all times:

  • Device Settings: Revoke location permissions entirely via iOS/Android settings
  • App Settings: Disable specific location features while keeping others
  • Per-Session: Decline location access when prompted
  • Friend Sharing: Individually control who can see your location
  • Instant Disable: Turn off all location features with one tap

Disabling location features will not affect your ability to use Oh/Jo Tech. You can still check in manually, join waitlists, make bookings, and use all other platform features.

Our location data retention policy is designed to minimize data storage:

  • Active Sessions: Location used in real-time, not stored permanently
  • Check-In Records: Only the facility name and timestamp are retained, not precise coordinates
  • Friend Sharing: Location shared in real-time only, not logged
  • Analytics: Only anonymized, aggregated facility traffic data (e.g., 'busy at 5pm') - no individual tracking

Facility operators using Oh/Jo Tech have limited access to location-related information:

What Operators CAN See

  • That you have checked in at their facility
  • That you have checked out / left
  • Aggregate traffic patterns (how busy the facility is)

What Operators CANNOT See

  • Your precise location within the facility
  • Where you were before or after visiting
  • Your location history at other facilities
  • Real-time tracking of your movements

For users under 18, additional location privacy protections apply:

  • Location features require parental/guardian consent
  • Friend location sharing is disabled by default
  • More restrictive data retention policies
  • Parents/guardians can disable location features on behalf of minors
